Satsuki’s betrayal has been planned since she was five years old, so there was never any change of heart or sympathy toward the normal people. She always felt this way and took advantage of Matoi to fight her and Nudist Beach for cover and also because she didn’t want weak allies fighting against her mom with her. She needed to test their strength and if they can’t defeat her armies in the school war, they don’t stand a chance against Ragyou. Of all of Satsuki’s former enemies, Matoi, Aikuro, and Tsumugu are the only ones left standing.

Souichirou is the name of Satsuki’s dad. He was a very talented man when it came to tailoring and for this reason he married Ragyou into the Kiryuuin family. When Satsuki was five years old, her dad took her to see Junketsu for the first time and told her these clothes will be her wedding dress, but in the day she puts it on will be the day she becomes a slave to clothing.

Satsuki returned to Honnouji and congratulated her four friends that directly led the charge in the war against other high schools. She announced that her mom, Ragyou, will be coming to the school in person. She also said that the day they’ve been working so hard for is finally here. They will call the day of her arrival the Great Culture and Sports Festival and the event will take place in the stadium named after her mom, Ragyou stadium. Most of the episode was showing the students building the stadium to accept Ragyou to the school. Throughout the episode it should be noted that Satsuki had a wispy attitude and she wasn’t talking or acting like she usually does, almost as if she’s reached the end of her life and she was looking back on the good and the bad.

Something serious was going to happen between Matoi and Tsumugu. Matoi was serious in her own way to defend Senketsu from him even if she’s standing there in her underwear; she even said that she will go full-on naked if it means defeating him. That is when Mako spoke up and told Matoi that girls aren’t supposed to show their naked body except to the person they truly love and she doesn’t believe that Matoi feels that way about Tsumugu. But if it’s toward Senketsu, which is in truth an alien lifeform in the likeness of clothing. Mako knows what to say to get everyone to calm down.

It might be hard to believe, but Satsuki was shaken by her battle with Matoi. She was fighting two battles at the same time. She was fighting the obvious fight against Matoi which she took a humble draw against, but her second battle was against her own clothes. Junketsu was trying to kill her by taking over her body. She was pale when she forced Junketsu from her body, sweat was dripping. She nailed him to her wall in her helicopter so that he won’t have another chance to kill anyone. Nui was piloting the helicopter and she is here on a mission sent by Satsuki’s mom to take her back home to the mansion. Satsuki wasn’t ready to against her mom’s orders, so she told her helpers to tell her top four to stay on guard until they get back to Honnouji Academy.

Aikuro is ready to tell Matoi everything concerning the Life Fibers, Nudist Beach, her dad Isshin, the Kiryuin family horrors, and so forth. She told Mako to go back home, but Mako will follow her dearest friend to the end of the world. She is just not ready to go full nude yet like Aikuro or Tsumugu. Their secret base is hidden underground. They must dive into a filthy river to get there. While walking to a certain location that looks like a classroom hidden in their base, Aikuro began explaining that Nudist Beach was created solely by Isshin, Matoi’s dad. I loved how Mako thought Isshin created Nudist Beach to sit on a nudist beach surrounded by naked women all day, and better yet I love how Matoi knew exactly what Mako was thinking and told her to stop.

In Osaka, Satsuki stares down Kaneo, the money throwing leader of this school. She doesn’t care that he has the whole population under his control by feeding off of their greed. With a single swipe from her blade, Satsuki overpowered their love for money to fight to the death with a great emotion called fear of dying for nothing. they turned tail and ran like the dogs they are. Kaneo stumbled backward as his arrogance swelled within him and his pride was thrown out of the window momentarily.

He pulled out a gadget and pressed a button and instantly his body was covered by a golden crab robot. He laughed menacingly and shot barrage of golden gourds at Satsuki and Sanageyama that flew like missiles. The two just stood there nonpulsed until a familiar growl issued from the smoke. Gamagoori Ira stood in the midst along with Jakuzure and Inumuta. They’ve finished wrapping up their battles in Kobe and Kyoto and have arrived here to assist Satsuki with their new three star uniforms.

The Tri School Raid war has begun finally in this episode after a long time planning behind the scenes. The war would have happened sooner if Matoi didn’t appear with Senketsu. Speaking of Matoi, she woke up in Aikuro’s office on his couch again and like the first time she woke up here in her underwear, he made crude jokes about how she should join Nudist (the secret guerilla group fighting against Satsuki).

Matoi tells Aikuro what happened with Nui and how Senketsu was shredded after her defeat. Senketsu’s voice came from somewhere on Aikuro and Matoi thought he was doing a crappy impersonation to cheer her up, which only pissed her off. She would have killed him if Aikuro didn’t pull the scarf of Senketsu, his eye and mind essentially, from his pocket and gave Senketsu over to Matoi.

Satsuki is beginning her tri-riad attack on the last remaining three high schools in the Kanto region. Her eyes are set on Kobe, Osaka, and Kyoto. She is gathered together with her four friends (for lack of a better term) discussing strategy. They have athletic platoons going after one school, non-athletic platoons going after another, and these four going after the final school alone. It is sure to be a crazy time for everyone involved. Satsuki doesn’t blame them for losing to Matoi or Nui since it was on some level expected. She plans on giving them each a new and better Goku Uniform after taking into account their battles against Matoi and Nui.

Mako is playing in the dirt with a stick while mopping that she doesn’t want to go on the school raid trip, but at the same time she wants to go. A girl’s heart is very fickle indeed. She has no love for violence and it is very obvious that this raid is just oozing with violent intentions, but still she laments the fact that she wants to go to Kyoto for free. She is met by Aikuro and he tells her how stupid she is for believing the three cities mentioned above are located all over Japan and not, as they are, in one region.

KILL la KILL (First Half) Review – Anime’s Godsend?

This show is without a doubt one of the better shows of the year, ranking up there with Attack on Titan, Silver Spoon, and Love Live!. But what makes this show so good in the first place? There is the obvious fanservice present and focused upon in every episode. I love how the fanservice is displayed in this show because they (the creators) don’t show bare skin or underwear in most cases or an offscreen nipple for the guys inside the show (curse the camera angles); there is a purpose with the fanservice. Satsuki, the supposed main villain, said it perfectly. She is not scared or ashamed to be naked, she doesn’t mind that her Kamui leaves her skin almost completely exposed, because the alternative is that she cannot fight to her full potential worrying about nakedness.

The plot follows the revenge route. The MC happens upon her dying father, murdered by a mysterious woman wielding one half of a giant scissor blade. The MC vows revenge after her father dies and her trail led her to Honnouji Academy where the school is one crazy encounter after another. The plot is definitely not the show’s strong point. The first five or six episodes were ridiculous. It isn’t until the guy with the needle gun shows up that the series takes a sudden turn away from comedy – though the comedy is still present – and nosedives right into a lush, mature story.
