Previous Summaries

In this episode the fight against the Goblin King comes to a finish. The war was one-sided from beginning to end after the adventurers became involved. Choushi was the only village that was presumed to be annihilated by the goblins, but Naotsugu and Marielle made sure that the sahagins won’t pass the beach, and Minori’s group made sure to stop their attack from passing over the bridge. Princess Lenessia saw a side of Krusty that I’m sure she would give anything to forget. He is a demon when he fights, she realized as she watched his blood-crazed eyes slaughtering the goblins. He personally killed the Goblin King.

Shiroe knows that Minori respects him and that she’s a hardworking individual that would rather do a job herself than to ask anyone for help. That is the kind of person she is so when she asked Shiroe for help to save Rudy he knew that she was desperate. She was able to keep her voice level, but it took her whole willpower to manage this. Shiroe left the strategic headquarters in capable hands and took Akatsuki with him when he blew on his griffon flute. They flew with all urgency to Choushi.

Krusty and his battalion are cleaving their way easily through the main goblin force. Keep in mind that most of the goblins are between level 20 to 30 while the adventurers are all level 40 and above with the top players being some of the highest in the game. This doesn’t count the near endless army of sahagins raiding the beaches near Choushi, which are about the same level as the goblins, but the adventurers there were fewer in number being a training camp for adventurers under the level of thirty, with only a handful of really high level instructors like Naotsugu or Marielle. Shiroe in his base of operations set up a communications network that ran smoothly because only one person from each squad relayed needed information to Shiroe and to other squads.

You can’t measure Minori’s and her party’s growth in terms of strength for Minori rarely fights, but stands in the back monitoring the overall flow of the battle and conducts the fight as a master strategist. Of all the adventurers taking part in the training camp, it is clear that none of the others are even remotely close to Minori’s party in terms like teamwork and  trust and to some degree strength. It’s been said that Shiroe would watch the status screen when the game was still a game to calculate where a fight will be in thirty seconds. Now the game is not like that anymore, but his ability to create a strategy still remains. Minori, being formed from his shadow, can see eight seconds into the future.

Lenessia took her first steps in Akihabara and the sight of Adventurers so freely going about their business was overwhelming. Everything you could possibly imagine in a market with people enjoying themselves happened including fire-breathing magic. Shiroe, Akatsuki, and Krusty went through the marketplace without turning to the left or to the right because they’re used to this sight, but Lenessia was staggering behind at least by three feet trying to catch up and absorb everything she saw. Krusty left the group to go back to his guild for a moment and left Lenessia in the hands of Shiroe and Akatsuki. Now that it’s come down to this, they finally introduce themselves to each other.

Shiroe took Lenessia to see Characin of the Round Table in a warehouse with clothes and armor. Shiroe planned from the start that Lenessia will wear a more attractive outfit than what she’s wearing, but he knows that she’ll never agree to changing clothes unless she has to. And that is where the super messy and tasty Crescent Burgers come into play. A few notable players in the guilds brought them to the warehouse. They were excited to see a real princess; children were gathering around her and watching with joy how she ate like a princess and talked like a princess and was beautiful like a princess. But the princess wasn’t aware out messy her food would be and got the sauce on her lovely dress.

The lords of the castle and cities in the region convened in a secret meeting to talk about the goblin attack. They feel pressured because their precious Knights of Izumo are gone and they don’t know where they are or if they died. People they sent on recon to their known castle came back and reported that it didn’t look like there was a struggle. So it’s like their heroes went poof into thin air and disappeared. I believe that they’re the game testers or creators themselves that played the role of the knights.

The People of the Land are extremely proud individuals. They feel that asking the adventurers to solve this problem shouldn’t even be asked. They blame the whole attack on the Adventurers in the first place, saying that it is their negligence that cause this. Their biggest concern is if they ask the Adventurers for help that they want a lot of money in return, money that they can pay, but don’t want to. Right now their biggest obstacle they must prevent is that the Knights of Izumo are gone, a fact they feel they must keep from the Adventurers.

The situation is a dire problem. The higher level Adventurers are able to kill the fish warriors with ease, but the problem is simply that there are too many fish warriors storming the beach. Luckily their job isn’t to kill them all, but to stall them so the weaker Adventurers can reach the safe zone. And while Nyanta was flying on his griffon he saw the largest army of goblins ever assembled. The goblins easily have 10,000 in their army, marching through the forest toward a city.

Shiroe was told about the goblins and the fish warriors. While both pressing matters, he decided to focus on the goblin army for now. He pulled off a nice trick using the friend communication system to hold a conference with the heads of the Round Table and told them his theory about the situation. He said the current situation is because of the Goblin King returning.

Minori transformed into a mini, female Shiroe for the sake of her team. Rudy the Sorcerer was skeptical about her wisdom at first, but he quickly realized that Minori was in the right and he in the wrong. Minori wanted to know everything about the people in her squad from their likes and dislikes to their spells (what they do, how long they need to cooldown to cast again, and why they prefer those spells over other ones). Throughout it all, she was writing everything down in her notebook.

The team found out that they match up well with each other. It just took someone to say something to get them to realize this. Following Shiroe’s careful party formation and battle strategy, Team Minori entered the dungeon and didn’t come back out again until seven hours later. Normally they’re forced to run away after encountering one batch of monsters. The strategies are working and everyone is falling into their natural roles placed on them by the game, which they were ignoring until now.

Log Horizon Episode 01 – Magical Scientist of Miral Lake Regan

Summary

A lot was said in this episode, so I hope I can summarize it in an understandable way. Shiroe and Akatsuki were led into a great library owned by a man who calls himself Regan, a Magical Scientist of Miral Lake. Regan is also known by other titles, the most famous being the Sage of Miral Lake. The Sage of Miral Lake is mentioned many times throughout the game, mostly as being the creator of some of the most valued items in the game. Regan inherited the title of Sage of Miral Lake and his purpose for revealing himself to Shiroe has to do with his research.

Regan is looking into World-Class Magic, magic so powerful it is given the name World Fraction. He explains there are different classes of magic in the game from Combat-Class Magic to National-Class to World-Class with a few classes tossed around in the mix. The different classes in magic tell a person how powerful a spell can be; for instance Combat-Class Magic can decide the fate of a single battle while a National-Class spell can decide an entire war. World-Class Magic is the strongest and changes everything. Regan said that he knows of three instances that the spell World Fraction was used and I’ll very briefly summarize his summary of the first two times. The most recent activation of the spell was during the Apocalypse that trapped everyone inside of the game, Elder Tales.
